Spending at Immigration is up

The Minister of Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, Hon. Mark Miller, and his senior officials, appeared before the House of Commons Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration to discuss next year’s spending estimates.

MP McLean took a particularly close look at line items including payments to outside consultants. This government has a tendency to spend huge amounts of money on outside consultants – even as the size of the public service is growing exponentially. Who is receiving those payments and what work is being done that could not be done in-house by existing public servants?

Question to Officials

MP McLean also asked detailed questions about where the money is going, and why more funds are being requested. This is the kind of detailed work that MPs do behind the scenes in committee that helps identify for Canadians where their taxes are being spent, why, on what, and whether the expenditure is justified.
