Parliament is back in session on Monday, Sept 18. I spent the summer talking to constituents and it is not an understatement to say that people are worried about the economy including housing, inflation, the overall cost of living, and the general direction of our economy. In this newsletter, I explore two of the other pressures on our economy which contribute to our current economic malaise – investment uncertainty and low productivity. I’ve also identified two areas of commitment where the government is way off target – the installation of public chargers for electric vehicles; and the government’s projected timeline for seeing returns on the massive investment in EV battery plants – the government says five years but the Parliamentary Budget Officer says 20 years!
