One of the final votes in Parliament at the end of the 2023 spring session was to make permanent the “hybrid Parliament” – which means that Members of Parliament are able to participate without attending in person. This means that Ministers can answer questions from their kitchen table, far away from nosy media and meddling backbench MPs. We lose the one-on-one collaboration and accountability that can only happen in-person. In this newsletter, I go into more depth on this loss of accountability and democracy.
There are also segments on the “In and Out” spending scheme of the Liberals, an indepth interview about the aborted investigation into foreign meddling, and the Asian Development Bank.
Some closing remarks on the issue of accountability and democracy.
