One of the final votes in Parliament at the end of the 2023 spring session was to make permanent the “hybrid Parliament” – which means that Members of Parliament are able to participate without attending in person. This means that Ministers can answer questions from their kitchen table, far away from nosy media and meddling backbench MPs. We lose the one-on-one collaboration and accountability that can only happen in-person. The result is more control for the Prime Minister, and less influence for backbench MPs, both government and opposition.
