Spring 2025 Parliamentary Wrap-Up: Fiscal Vigilance and Forward Momentum

As we wrap up the Spring session of the 45th Parliament, I want to share a few important updates with you.

One of the biggest issues we tackled was the estimates process, which approved an additional $495 billion in federal spending—without a formal budget. That’s an 8% increase over previous spending levels, and it’s deeply concerning. We’re likely looking at a deficit much larger than the $60 billion the government projected during the last election. That kind of unchecked spending drives inflation and higher interest rates, and it’s young Canadians who will carry that burden for years to come.

We also had the final vote on Bill C-5, a government bill that attempts to override existing laws to fast-track project approvals. While we supported it after pushing for key amendments to introduce checks and balances, I’ll be watching closely to see how this plays out in Canada’s federal constitutional framework.

Looking ahead, I expect a fall fiscal update that will reveal just how far off the government’s projections really are. I’ll be holding them accountable every step of the way.

Now, I’m heading back to Calgary for the summer, and I’m looking forward to seeing many of you at Stampede, Neighbour Day, and all the great festivals happening around our city. Let’s reconnect, catch up, and talk about what matters most to you.

Have a great summer—and thank you for staying engaged.
