Seven Months Later: Why Canada Still Needs a Budget
This coming Tuesday, we will finally see a budget from this government—seven months after they were elected. That’s the longest gap between an election and a financial plan in Canadian history.
We’ve heard the excuses: unprecedented times, trade wars, global uncertainty. But let’s be clear—every other country is facing similar challenges and still managing to deliver for their people. If you don’t have a plan, you can’t get where you need to go. Canada needs a financial roadmap, and we need it now.
Back in June, I warned that based on the spending patterns we were seeing, this year’s deficit could hit $80 billion. On Tuesday, we’ll find out if that prediction was accurate.
Good governance means accountability. It means making sure elected officials deliver what Canadians expect: a responsible plan for a prosperous future. That’s what I’ll be looking for in this budget, and I’ll share my analysis right after it’s tabled.
Stay tuned—Canada deserves better, and I’ll keep working to make sure we get it.
