The Liberal government’s handling of immigration has been marked by incompetence, leading to a backlog of 2.6 million files and a 50% error rate in citizenship applications. The proposed Bill C-71 An Act to amend the Citizenship Act (2024) aims to address some issues but falls short by lowering the standards for obtaining citizenship and failing to require criminal background checks.
Conservatives support parts of the bill, such as restoring citizenship to those who lost it due to non-application and extending equal treatment to adopted children. However, we believe in enforcing a more robust connection requirement and streamlining processes to restore integrity and trust in the system.
It’s time for a change. Only common-sense Conservatives can fix the broken immigration and citizenship process, ensuring Canadian citizenship remains a privilege earned through genuine connection and commitment to our nation.
