Government Sends Collapsed Services over to MP Offices

This Trudeau government is failing at so many basic services. Passports. Immigration backlogs. Getting people out of Afghanistan who helped Canada. Airport security screening. And on and on.

Front line government employees are now simply resorting to telling their frustrated clients to call their MPs, just as the Minister for Services Canada has recommended.

As MPs, we thank and recognize the work of our hard working case managers in Members’ constituency offices who are called upon to help constituents navigate through a system of services that has collapsed. In Calgary Centre, my thanks goes to Shaney Pap.

TRANSCRIPT OF STATEMENT

Mr. Greg McLean (Calgary Centre, CPC): Mr. Speaker, the government is failing in so many basic matters. It is failing in providing passports to Canadians. It is failing Afghan refugees who assisted our brave men and women in a war zone. It is failing with processing immigration applications, now millions of files behind. Frontline government employees are now simply resorting to telling their frustrated clients to call their MPs just as the minister of Service Canada has recommended. One can imagine the significant increase in call volume to our offices, and our caseworkers are doing their utmost to fill the void.

The people of Calgary Centre and I are extremely lucky to have Shaney Pap in my office. There is not a week that goes by that I do not get glowing comments about the invaluable assistance she has provided. The volume of files she handles is immense and broad. While government is working at half speed, often from home, Shaney has stepped in to ensure people who need essential services are getting them. Today, I join my constituents in thanking Shaney for all she does for us.
