Energy Hostile Government caps Canadian Economy

The energy hostile NDP-Liberal government, has plunged Canada into economic hardship, marking the worst decline in living standards in forty years. With the lowest income per person in the G7 and the poorest economic growth in the OECD, the Liberal government now threatens to make it even worse.

The recent announcement of an emissions cap by the Environment Minister is not just an attack on emissions but a direct hit on Canadian oil production, jobs, and paycheques.

This cap on the Canadian economy is expected to cost 150,000 lost jobs.

Despite these economic consequences, there will be no environmental benefit, as any reduction in Canadian production will be quickly compensated by other producers, many of which have lower environmental and human rights standards than Canada.

Canada’s Environment Minister said, “Look around the world, no other…oil and gas producer is doing what we’re doing.”

Might he pause, and ask why?

These were my questions to the government in Question Period on Nov 8:

This policy, which the government’s own analysis admits will cost billions and thousands of jobs, will raise energy costs and send money overseas to dictators in Russia, Nigeria and Iraq. It is a gift to the new Trump administration in Washington, where the President-elect says they will “drill, baby, drill”. The USA will be one major beneficiary from the increased investments, export revenue, and new jobs that will flee Canada.

Despite the energy sector’s significant contributions to clean technology and public services, the Liberal policy jeopardizes jobs and crucial revenue. It’s time to end this ideological crusade and support Canada’s energy workers.
