In this issue of my newsletter, I take a closer look at the government’s Just Transition plan, now renamed the “Sustainable Jobs Plan” – although they decline to offer a definition of what a “sustainable job” actually is, preferring to allow it to remain “evergreen” – in other words, whatever they want it to be at the time. I also look at their record of creating Just Transitions by examining the transition away from coal in Hanna, Alberta. Spoiler alert – it isn’t pretty.
Also included are some remarks I made to the House of Commons on Bill C-27 Digital Charter Implementation Act, 2022. This act is supposed to protect our digital privacy – which is a laudable goal – but this bill just doesn’t cover the bases sufficiently, and will hold Joe’s Garage to the same regulatory and bureaucratic standards as the Royal Bank.
