Asking Who Ottawa Really Built This Spaceport For
When I raised questions in Question Period about a $200‑million spaceport contract, I expected answers. Instead, the Minister of Defence chose to dismiss the questions outright — calling the very premise “stupid.” Canadians should pause when a government reacts to scrutiny with insults rather than explanations, especially when hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars are involved.

The questions were straightforward:
- why a deal was applied retroactively,
- why key details were absent from public filings, and
- why warnings about a company’s financial health were ignored.
These are the kinds of questions Parliament is meant to ask. Treating them with contempt sends a troubling message — that oversight is inconvenient, and accountability optional.
If asking how $200 million is spent is ‘stupid,’ Canadians deserve to see this exchange for themselves.”
Holding government to account is never ‘stupid,’ especially when taxpayers’ money is on the line.
Canadians don’t expect blind spending or unquestioned trust. They expect transparency, facts, and respect for the role of Parliament in holding government to account. If asking how $200 million is being spent is considered “stupid,” then Canadians deserve to see that exchange for themselves — and decide whether this government still believes accountability matters.
