I delivered remarks in the House of Commons on May 31 on Bill C-35 Canada Early Learning and Child Care Act.
I noted in particular the wide gulf between government narrative (promises) and the actual implementation of programs, which is often lacking. There are two key barriers to effective child care: access to skilled workers to care for the children; and the accessibility of child care centres for people who live in “day care deserts”, far from available child care locations. Those are barriers we must overcome if Canada is to deliver on affordable, quality child care. This government is long on narrative, but too often short on execution.
